Clinics and Special
Services
Phlebotomy/Blood Sample Taking
This clinic is run along the same lines as hospital phlebotomy
services. For routine blood monitoring needs, you may be asked
to attend one of these clinics.
Minor Surgery
All of the doctors are accredited by NHS Ayrshire & Arran to
carry out minor surgical procedures. These include removal of
cysts and moles, joint injections cautery. These and other minor
surgical procedures are fitted in at times to suit patients.
Carers' Group
This is run monthly by Sister Gallery and is open to all carers
in the practice. The purpose of the group is to provide support,
information and advice on a broad range of issues facing carers.
Travel Immunisations
These are often required for foreign travel, both for holiday
and business. Contact the receptionist to arrange an
appointment, preferably eight weeks before travel.
Nursing Care
For information about comprehensive nursing care, including home
nursing for the chronically ill, contact the receptionist.
Dietitian
There is a regular monthly clinic run by a dietitian attached to
the practice.
Family Planning
A full confidential service is provided, including coil fitting
and a full range of barrier methods. Initially, a routine
appointment is made either with the practice Nursing Sister, who
is fully family planning trained, or with one of the Doctors.
Cervical Smears and Well Woman Advice
Simply request a double appointment for either the Practice
Nursing Sister, or one of the doctors. It should be noted that
all women between 20 and 60 should have regular smears every
three years. This is a simple procedure. There is a fully
computerised recall system to deal with the initial appointment
and any subsequent follow-up.
Child Immunisations
Routine appointments can be made to see any of the nurses in the
surgery and full call and recall system is in place too.
Immunisation for children is absolutely essential to ensure good
future health.
Well Man/Well Woman Clinics
An appointment can be given at the patient's request.
Diabetes
A twice weekly clinic is run by Sister Gallery. Dietetic advice
is provided by the dietician.
Maternity Care

your doctor, midwife and hospital consultant. Antenatal patients
will be seen in the surgery at a time suitable to the patient.
Our midwife, Liz Gibson has a clinic every Thursday afternoon.
Asthma/Respiratory Clinic

to confirm the diagnosis and monitor treatment for both adults
and children.

This is run on a regular basis by the Practice Nurses where
those with risk factors, including lipid abnormalities are
monitored and treated. Other health promotion clinics are run
for hypertension, smoking, endocrine and influenza vaccinations
(October and November).
Health Visitor
Clinics are held on Thursday afternoon between 2pm and 3pm. No
appointment is required. Telephone 01292 885528 for advice at
other times.
Home Help Services
Home Help Services can be arranged either by contacting the Home
Help Supervisor who is based at the Social Work Department, or
by contacting one of the receptionists at the surgery.
Insurance Medicals
Please speak to the receptionist to arrange a suitable time.
Medical Certificates to cover absence from work
Self-certification with form SC1 is all that is required for
illnesses lasting five working days or less. The form is
available at the DSS, from your employer, or at reception. After
seven days you must consult a doctor in person for further
certification forms.
Private forms, or holiday cancellation forms require a fee to be
paid
as do passport forms.
Help with other NHS Services and Costs
Please note there are a number of helpful leaflets available at
reception and in the waiting room. Form P11 gives full details
of NHS prescription charges and those exempt from payment. Form
AB11 gives information on hospital travel costs and exemption
from dental and sight charges etc. There are also forms
available to help with pre-paid prescription applications.
Please ask the receptionist for further details.
Eye Care
It is advisable to have regular sight tests by an Optometrist or
Ophthalmic Medical Practitioner. In addition to the obvious
benefits, it is well know that an examination of the eyes can
lead to the early detection of eye diseases such as glaucoma,
cataracts or signs of general disease such as diabetes or high
blood pressure.
Dental Care
It is equally advisable to have regular dental check-ups,
particularly children and expectant mothers. It is worthwhile
remembering that all dental care throughout pregnancy and the
first year afterwards is free under the NHS at present.
